Are you wondering if going down the route of having your teeth straightened is beneficial? Maybe you’re interested in pursuing a method of teeth straightening, but would really like to know more first. If that sounds like you, then Winchester Orthodontics is a good place for you!

There are many advantages to having straighter teeth, although some of these are of course dependent on your starting point and may not apply to every case. Our orthodontist Hampshire would be qualified to discuss your particular needs with you and therefore give you a great idea of the benefits that apply to your case. In general, having crooked teeth, or gapped teeth is a widely recognised source of self-consciousness in our society. In that instance, the advantage of considering straightening your teeth is an increase in your self- confidence. Maybe, the toothy grin which is normally hidden from the camera will appear! Clinically speaking, there are advantages too. If you often struggle with getting things stuck in gaps, or between crooked teeth then looking into realignment may help to reduce the likelihood of this happening. As a result of that, infections and discomfort may also be lowered.
In circumstances of crossbite, overbite or underbite, it’s common that the teeth can rub together incorrectly, causing wear and tear on them. Reduction of this is another advantage of looking into a method of straightening your teeth. Importantly, the ability to properly brush and floss your teeth is increased where straighter teeth are present, thus promoting good dental hygiene which in turn can lengthen the life of your natural teeth.
Invisalign for straighter teeth
Now that you are aware of the benefits of having straighter teeth, you are probably wondering about which methods can be utilised to achieve this for you. Our orthodontist Hampshire would be delighted to conduct a thorough examination of your mouth and teeth and present you with the options that would suit you. One of the options you may be presented with is Invisalign (often misspelt Invisaline) clear braces.
Invisalign consists of a series of transparent aligners which are worn one after the other. Each is slightly different from the previous one, encouraging the gradual movement of your teeth from their starting position to the end goal you set. They come with the recommendation to be worn for 22 hours per day, leaving you time to remove them for eating and drinking and also for keeping your teeth properly clean throughout the process. These nearly invisible braces are custom made to the patient’s measurements, taken through the use of 3D scanning, X-rays, photos and examination by our qualified orthodontist Hampshire. The treatment time varies on a case-by-case basis, but as a guide may take anywhere from 6-24 months to make the desired progress. Invisalign aligners can be used to treat many different dental issues such as crooked, gapped or crowded teeth as well as things such as underbite or overbite.
