A brief explanation of the Invisalign treatment by our orthodontist

Invisible braces, also commonly referred to as Invisalign, is a popular treatment amongst patients. At Winchester Orthodontics, we provide this treatment and many other orthodontic treatments. Invisalign is a teeth-straightening method and can be used as an alternative to metal braces. The term ‘invisible’ instantly refers to transparent braces. Invisalign is a much more discreet process and is less likely visible to the human eye. Invisalign can treat both crowded and gapped teeth.

Patients can smile and talk without worrying that their braces are visible. This treatment tends to attract an older audience. It attracts those who are in professional occupations. However, Invisalign is not limited to other people. Invisalign is made from thermoplastic, and in the same fashion as metal braces, it moves the teeth into the correct position. The difference is that Invisalign can be removed when desired. It can be removed before eating, and it provides comfort for individuals. Invisalign has no sharp edges or wires; therefore, no dietary plan is needed. If you wish to look into more detail on this treatment, feel free to email or call us, and our orthodontist Hampshire will be happy to help you.

How does the procedure work and what is the duration of treatment?

The procedure will first start off with our orthodontist Hampshire assessing the oral health of a patient to identify their tooth issues. A 3D scan will be taken during this appointment to see the main areas of focus. Taking this 3D scan will allow our dental professionals to provide a custom-made tray suitable for your mouth. These aligners whilst worn will gradually move your teeth into the desired position. The aligners must be replaced every two weeks to get the right direction. Invisible braces only can work when they are on the teeth; therefore, we highly recommend that you wear your aligners for around 22 hours a day to get the expected results.

The treatment duration will depend on many different aspects. If your teeth are severely misaligned, then it may take longer for the teeth straightening process. However, the treatment typically takes around 18-24 months to work for most patients.

Important and highly recommended points to consider when undergoing treatment

We recommend that you attend regular checkups with our practice; this is so that our dental team can track the progress of the treatment. It will also give us the ability to determine how long it will take for the final results to show.

After the process is complete, it is important to wear a retainer so that your teeth are secured in place and do not revert to their previous positions.

The aftercare of the teeth after the Invisalign treatment is important. You must maintain oral health so that no underlying issues occur again.

Implications of potential side effects

With every orthodontic procedure, there is a slight chance of mild and minor side effects. In some cases, an individual may be allergic to Invisalign aligners. This allergic reaction may cause gum irritation, but it tends to be that the individuals recover from this quickly. However, if the gum irritation is ongoing and causes other health conditions such as headaches, it is important to contact our orthodontist Hampshire immediately.
